Delta Flight Diverted from Detroit to San Diego flight 1706
Delta flight 1706 was diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico today after a flight attendant found a suspicious note that apparently had the word “bomb”.
“The captain came on and said ‘You notice we’re declining. We’re getting ready to divert. It’s probably a hoax, but we’ve got to take this very seriously,’” Passenger Cole told the Associated Presss from the Albuquerque airport.
The Delta flight, from Detroit, was headed to San Diego and had 137 passengers and six crew members. The plane landed safely and moved to a remote area. The passengers were brought to a warehouse where the FBI searched luggage, with the assistance of trained dogs, and asked questions. According to reports, passengers were provided Pizza, water, and soda.
@DeltaNewsroom tweeted, “DL flight 1706 (DTW-SAN) diverted to Albuquerque due to security concern, flight landed safely & DL working w/ authorities to investigate.”
Delta released a statement saying the airline is cooperating directly with authorities.
“Delta’s first and foremost priority is the safety and security of our customers and crew,” the statement said.
The flight is expected to continue on to San Diego in the next few hours, Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant said.
